Leeds: Kalvin Phillips’ future questioned

Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has said that Leeds United’s style of play could force Kalvin Phillips to move away from Elland Road.
Phillips could move
Merson was speaking after Leeds’ 2-1 defeat to West Ham United on Friday night in the Premier League, a loss that sees them drop to 14th in the table.
Speaking on Sky Sports News, Merson has questioned the future of Phillips at the club. He said:
“Every neutral loves watching Leeds play because you know it’s going be an open game, it’s going to be free-flowing, there’s going to be goals – but that’s no good to Leeds.
“I look at Phillips, and I was talking upstairs earlier with the lads: you look at Phillips and wonder how long is he going to stay at Leeds for?”
Too soon
There are certainly questions to be asked of Leeds from a defensive point of view. Only West Bromwich Albion have conceded more goals than the Whites’ 22 after 12 games. However, they have managed to net 17 times in the competition, which puts them in the top 10.
Will Kalvin Phillips leave Leeds United?
Yes

No

Midfielder Mateusz Klich has said that Leeds’ goal this season is purely to stay in the top flight – something which is unlikely to have changed since the start of the season. Marcelo Bielsa is a top coach – he will have noticed the issues his side are encountering, and given time he will find the right solution.
As one of the club’s most important players, and a local lad after all, there is no reason why £19.8m-valued Phillips (Transfermarkt) would jump ship at this point.
In other news, this man struggled against West Ham.
