Leeds United will look at a move Philadelphia Union left-back Kai Wagner in January, according to Manuel Veth.

The Lowdown: Gakpo interest

Victor Orta had an extremely stressful deadline day which began in the Netherlands, as the Leeds chief travelled abroad in the hope of bringing back Cody Gakpo from PSV.

However, the Dutch forward remained at the Eredivisie club, with the Whites expected to go back in for the player in the New Year.

Another player who was heavily linked with a move to Elland Road this summer was Wagner, and it looks as if he too is on the January wish-list.

The Latest: Wagner update

Veth has been on top of Leeds’ interest in Wagner and provided a deadline day 'update' on the German.

The reporter said that it was ‘unlikely’ Leeds would make a move on Thursday, but added that the ‘tendency is towards a winter transfer, according to a source’.

The Verdict: Smart

Leeds decided against making a left-back addition this summer and look set to place their trust in Junior Firpo when he returns from injury.

Jesse Marsch has had to use Pascal Struijk at left-back for the first five Premier League fixtures, so only time will tell if not moving for Wagner in the summer was a mistake.

It appears as if Leeds are still keen on the 25-year-old, though, so all eyes will be on Firpo’s fitness and form over the coming months.
