The Lowdown: Davis in Australia
Davis, who Scott Parker labelled ‘brilliant’ during his loan spell with Bournemouth last season, was selected in a 26-man squad to travel to Australia for the Whites’ pre-season tour following Junior Firpo’s latest injury.
The 22-year-old has featured in both friendlies against Brisbane Roar and Aston Villa, with Marsch starting the left-back against their fellow Premier League side.
Davis is into the final 12 months of his Elland Road contract, and it looks as if his future is still undecided with the new season fast approaching.
The Latest: Hay’s claim on Davis
Writing in a story for The Athletic on Saturday, Hay touched on Davis’ situation.
The reliable reporter said that there is an offer on the table from League One side Ipswich Town for the full-back, with Marsch in ‘two minds about whether to keep him close’.
The Verdict: New left-back required
Davis has only played 14 senior matches for Leeds, the same amount as he has for the under-23s, so it could be a risk heading into the new campaign with him as the only available left-back in the first-team squad.
Happy with Orta's business so far?
I'm not so sure!
Firpo and Stuart Dallas are both sidelined for the foreseeable future, and although the likes of Pascal Struijk, Leo Hjelde and Jack Harrison – who has also been linked with an exit from Elland Road – can fill in if needed, it could be wise to sign a new left-back and allow Davis to move on.
Only time will tell what Leeds and Marsch decide to do, but it looks as if their immediate focus is on a new forward following Raphinha’s move to Barcelona.
