Leeds: Fabrizio Romano reacts to Martin Terrier update -Leeds United News

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has been reacting to rumours regarding reported Leeds United target Martin Terrier.

The Lowdown: Leeds watching Terrier

The Whites have recently been name-checked with an interest in the French forward heading into the January transfer window.

Leeds are thought to be one of seven Premier League clubs who have watched Terrier in action in recent weeks, with the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United and Newcastle United also keeping an eye on the 25-year-old.

This isn’t the first time that Elland Road chiefs have been linked with a move for Terrier, with speculation first emerging in the summer.

The Latest: Romano’s comments

Romano addressed the speculation regarding Terrier and a potential move to the Premier League on Thursday in a column for Caught Offside.

He labelled the Frenchman ‘fantastic’ but stated that ‘sources close to Rennes’ say that the Ligue 1 club would demand at least €45m-€50m (£39m-£43.3m) for the forward, adding that there is nothing ‘concrete’ at this moment in time.

Romano wrote: “What a season Martin Terrier is having, and it’s inevitably led to links with Premier League clubs in recent times, but what’s the truth?”

“He’s doing fantastic, and so there are always scouts following him from English clubs and also Serie A clubs.

“Sources close to Rennes guarantee they’d ask for €45-50m for Terrier, but nothing is happening yet. I think he’ll have a fair few options, but it’s too early to say anything concrete on his future right now.”

The Verdict: Unlikely?

The ship may well have sailed when it comes to Leeds potentially signing Terrier, despite the Elland Road club still seemingly being keen on his services.

As mentioned, the likes of Arsenal, Newcastle and Manchester United are also monitoring the player, and those clubs may appeal more to Terrier due to participation in Europe and possible financial incentives, something which could make a move to Yorkshire unlikely.

However, Leeds could do with a new centre-forward in January amid Patrick Bamford’s struggles in front of goal, so someone like Boulaye Dia – who has also been linked – could be a more realistic target.
