Leeds: Whites target Noussair Mazraoui wanted by Bayern Munich

Leeds: Whites target Noussair Mazraoui wanted by Bayern Munich - Leeds United News

Rumoured Leeds United transfer target Noussair Mazraoui is wanted by Bayern Munich this summer, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The Lowdown: Mazraoui a wanted man

The right-back has arguably stood out as one of the most promising players in his position in Europe in recent years, catching the eye with his performances for Ajax and reaching the Champions League semi-finals in 2018/19.

Mazraoui has chipped in with seven goal contributions in the Eredivisie this season – five goals and two assists – highlighting the attacking quality that he possesses, and he is already an established Champions League operator.

Leeds have been linked with a move for the 24-year-old this summer, as have Barcelona, but that potential signing may now have been scuppered for the Whites.

The Latest: Leeds suffer possible blow over Mazraoui

According to Romano via Twitter, Bayern are keen on acquiring Mazraoui’s signature and have already held talks with the player.

The journalist revealed: “During their contacts with Raiola for Gravenberch, FC Bayern have asked again for Noussair Mazraoui. More: he had a direct conversation with Nagelsmann and Kahn. Barcelona are offering €5m per season. It’s up to the player, tempted by Barça proposal since weeks.”

The Verdict: Hard to compete with Bayern

Mazraoui could have been a perfect summer addition by Leeds, with Jesse Marsch potentially viewing him as a long-term replacement for Luke Ayling, who turns 31 later this year.

Unfortunately, once a club of Bayern’s stature emerges in the race to sign a player, it can be very difficult for the Whites to compete, given the Munich club’s pedigree and the virtual guarantee of Champions League football every year.

For that reason, it could be the case that Leeds need to consider other right-back targets as Marsch looks to enhance his squad ahead of next season, which will hopefully see them still playing in the Premier League. If not, bringing in players of Mazraoui’s ilk would become much harder.

In other news, Leeds are ‘confident’ of tying a player down to a new deal. Find out who it is here.
