# Leeds United: Raphinha missed Leicester match due to an ankle injury

**Leeds United put up a good fight against Leicester City last night. However, the Foxes were too strong in the end and came away with a [4-1](https://www.sofascore.com/team/football/leeds-united/34) victory.**

A lot of the news pre-game was discussing the noticeable absence of Raphinha from the squad and Phil Hay has provided an [update](https://twitter.com/PhilHay_/status/1323339106068369409?s=20) that he was missing due to ankle injury. Following the match, the journalist was able to find out a bit more from Marcelo Bielsa on the severity of the injury.

### Bielsa’s update on Leeds winger Raphinha

According to[Hay](https://twitter.com/PhilHay_/status/1323390041029287938?s=20), Bielsa believes the ankle injury the summer signing has is ‘not serious’ and the manager feels that Raphinha could possibly be in contention for their game against Crystal Palace.

### Big boost for Bielsa

‘Not serious’ are the two words that supporters of the club would have wanted to hear. The summer signing, who cost the club an initial [£17m](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54415316), is being given time to settle in and has made two appearances from the bench so far.

However, the stats of the 23-year-old before arriving at Leeds highlight that he has a great eye for goal. The Brazilian has made [179 career appearances](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/raphinha/leistungsdaten/spieler/411295/plus/0?saison=ges), scoring 44 times and picking up 26 assists. Therefore, the fact that he could be involved next weekend is a great bit of news.

It is also welcome news because fellow summer signing Rodrigo will likely not be available as he is [having to isolate](https://twitter.com/PhilHay_/status/1323390041029287938?s=20) for 14 days.

Without both Rodrigo and Raphinha yesterday, Leeds’ attacking substitutions were [Tyler Roberts](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/tyler-roberts/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/296986), who has only managed 24 goals in his career, and [Ian Poveda](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ian-poveda/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/392763), who only has ten senior appearances to his name.

This highlights the need for players like Raphinha and despite his lack of appearances so far, the winger could still have a huge impact for Bielsa this season, so the sooner he’s fit, the better.
