# Leeds United: Sonny Perkins ‘likely to join’

**Former West Ham teenager Sonny Perkins is ‘likely to join [Leeds](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/)’, according to insider [ExWHUemployee](https://www.patreon.com/posts/transfer-update-69076833?utm_medium=post_notification_email&utm_source=post_link&utm_campaign=patron_engagement&token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJyZWRpc19rZXkiOiJpYTphYzllZTNkOS05ODNiLTQxZDMtODhiMi03ZmFiM2I2MGQ2ZDciLCJwb3N0X2lkIjo2OTA3NjgzMywicGF0cm9uX2lkIjo0NTE1MzMzOH0.kw0Dqoc6tK2WYFLWTtTcaSNJUuKp3zLbvhICXa-Wjvw).**

### The Lowdown: Leeds links

The Whites have been hard at work bolstering Jesse Marsch’s first team ranks this summer, spending [£95m](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/transfers/verein/399) on six players. One of those is young midfielder Darko Gyabi, who is part of a [26-man Leeds squad](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/team-news/30067/australia-squad-list-confirmed) in Australia after joining from Manchester City.

More youngsters like Gyabi could arrive at Thorp Arch, though, with Perkins first [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-phil-hay-reveals-sonny-perkins-transfer-news/) with a move to Yorkshire last month. Leeds were thought to be lining up a deal for the 18-year-old, who [officially](https://www.whufc.com/news/sonny-perkins-leaves-west-ham-united) left the London Stadium earlier this month.

### The Latest: Perkins update

[MOT Leeds News](https://motleedsnews.com/news/leeds-united-most-likely-to-complete-signing-of-sonny-perkins/) relayed an update from reliable Hammers insider [ExWHUemployee](https://www.patreon.com/posts/transfer-update-69076833?utm_medium=post_notification_email&utm_source=post_link&utm_campaign=patron_engagement&token=eyJ0eXAiOiJKV1QiLCJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJyZWRpc19rZXkiOiJpYTphYzllZTNkOS05ODNiLTQxZDMtODhiMi03ZmFiM2I2MGQ2ZDciLCJwb3N0X2lkIjo2OTA3NjgzMywicGF0cm9uX2lkIjo0NTE1MzMzOH0.kw0Dqoc6tK2WYFLWTtTcaSNJUuKp3zLbvhICXa-Wjvw) regarding Perkins on Thursday.

He claimed that ‘Perkins looks most likely to join Leeds’ after his West Ham departure, with the [‘stand out’](https://www.footballfancast.com/west-ham-united-news/west-ham-united-team-news-academy-prospects-in-the-pipeline-sonny-perkins-david-moyes-whu-irons-hammers-premier-league) player (in the words of Ex) even appearing to [follow](https://www.leedsallover.com/spotted-midfielder-follows-leeds-united-on-social-media-amid-strong-links-with-elland-road-move/) the Whites on Instagram in recent days.

### The Verdict: Fingers crossed

The likes of [Aston Villa and Tottenham](https://www.theguardian.com/football/2022/jun/09/aston-villa-leeds-tottenham-west-ham-sonny-perkins) have also been linked with Perkins, who Leeds reporter [James Marshment](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/leeds-united-urged-sign-no-24202237) has said could be a ‘£30m’ player in ‘three or four years’.

\[freshpress-quiz id=”398317″\]

He’s described as a midfielder by both [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/428688/Show/Sonny-Perkins) and [The Athletic](https://theathletic.com/player/premier-league/free-agent/sonny-tufail-perkins/) but can also play further [forward](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sonny-perkins/leistungsdaten/spieler/670877) and has an impressive [goalscoring record](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sonny-perkins/leistungsdaten/spieler/670877) for West Ham’s academy sides.

Therefore, Leeds could be about to secure a versatile future star in Perkins, so hopefully, ExWHUemployee’s claim regarding a move to the Whites is accurate.
