With the domestic transfer window due to close at 5pm this evening, Marcelo Bielsa continues to be in the market for new midfielder. After failing to sign Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich two weeks ago, the Whites have also fallen short in their attempts to agree a move for Norwich’s Todd Cantwell.
Those transfer failures have now seen the Yorkshire club linked with a potential move for Derby youngster Sibley, with Football Insider adding weight to the transfer links. The 19-year-old is believed to be an integral part of Derby’s plans this season as they aim to push for promotion to the Premier League.
Phillips wants Leeds to loan Louie Sibley back to Derby
Discussing Leeds’ links with the England under-20 international, Phillips has implored the Elland Road club to loan the midfielder back to the Rams if a deadline day move goes through.
“Sibley will turn out to be a great player,” the former Southampton and England striker told Football Insider.
“He is a young kid with an exciting future.
“Does he go to Leeds and play every other game? I would rather him stay and play week in, week out.
“There could be a deal to be done where he is signed and then goes back to Derby on loan, I would not be adverse to that. The kid just needs to play football.”
Sibley secured an impressive five goals and two assists in his 11 first team appearances in the Championship last term.
Should Leeds loan Louie Sibley back to Derby if they sign him?
Bielsa’s desire to bring in a new midfielder has seen a number of players being linked with Leeds, but it now seems that any potential signing could come too late to meet this evening’s deadline.
If Sibley is signed today, perhaps loaning him back to the Championship would not be the best course of action. Why would Bielsa not want the youngster to learn from the likes of Pablo Hernandez and gain some minutes in England’s top flight?
