Influential Leeds United duo Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha are both discussing new deals at Elland Road, according to journalist Jacque Talbot.

The Lowdown: Crucial Phillips and Raphinha

The Whites have had their fair share of iconic figures at Elland Road down the years but Phillips and Raphinha are arguably the biggest names at the club currently.

The former has been a fantastic performer for a number of seasons now, even earning international recognition as England's Player of the Year, while the latter has been a joy to watch out wide since arriving from Rennes in 2020, earning his own place as a world-renowned superstar for Brazil.

Constant speculation continues to surround the futures of the pair - both were linked with moves to West Ham in January - but a big update has now emerged.

The Latest: Massive update emerges

Writing on Twitter on Tuesday, Talbot, who writes for the likes of The Mirror and the Guardian, claimed talks are underway regarding new deals for both Phillips and Raphinha:

"Raphinha and Kalvin Phillips both in discussions with Leeds over contract renewals, I’m told."

He then added: "Both their current deals end in 2024. For me, this is a shining example of the belief players have for Bielsa and for the future, despite Leeds‘ precarious league position."

The Verdict: Hugely exciting news

This is an enormous boost for Leeds, with both Phillips and Raphina so integral to the team's success moving forward, considering they are both established internationals who are key for England and Brazil ahead of the 2022 World Cup, respectively.

Phillips' quality and tenacity in midfield make him the hub of Bielsa's side, with 2.3 tackles won per game in the league this season, while Raphinha is Leeds' top scorer with eight goals - double the amount of second-placed pair Dan James and Jack Harrison.

If the Whites managed to tie down both of their current stars to new deals it would genuinely feel like a couple of big-name signings - while Raphinha may be harder to keep hold of, it would ensure the club banks a big fee if he does move on to pastures new.
