Former England international Darren Bent has discussed Leeds United’s potential summer move for Harry Wilson, saying it would be a “perfect” move for both the club and the player.
The development of Wilson since coming through Liverpool’s academy has seen him have four loan spells away from the Merseyside club. First team experience with Crewe Alexandra, Hull City, Derby County and Bournemouth has seen the young winger develop well, particularly impressing under Frank Lampard at Pride Park in the 2018/19 season where he netted 18 goals and supplied six assists.
Due to return to Anfield this summer due to his loan deal at Bournemouth coming to an end, Wilson will look to address his future and a link to Leeds has started to develop (as per Football Insider). Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has reportedly made the winger available for a summer move and that further prompted Leeds to revive their interest, which has seen them miss out over the last two summers.
Speaking on a potential move to Leeds, Bent has given his thoughts in a recent interview with Football Insider. He said:
“I really like Harry Wilson, I watched him a lot at Derby and I thought he was brilliant.
“He’s done well at Bournemouth on occasions as well. I really like him, I think he’s got everything and if Leeds do get promoted, I think that would be a perfect signing.
“Even if, for whatever reason, they don’t get promoted, I think he’d be a great signing as well so I’d love to see them try to get him then as well because he knows the leagues, he knows what it takes, he’s got very, very good quality.
“I think with that experience he’d be the perfect signing for Leeds, whatever division their in.”
This potential summer move should be among Marcelo Bielsa’s priorities this summer. Wilson and Leeds seem a match made in heaven and the Argentine coach is an obvious fan favourite of the winger, having tried twice already to seal his signature.
If Wilson’s valuation is halved, Bielsa could be looking at one of the best bargains in recent English football history.
