Speaking to MOT Leeds News, pundit Paul Robinson has told Victor Orta to seal a ‘great signing for Leeds’ in Aston Villa ace Tom Heaton – with the Sky Sports regular claiming he is still ‘one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League’ despite his lack of game time.
Heaton, who has been restricted to Premier League 2 appearances over 2020/2021, could struggle to get in ahead of Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez due to his stellar form, according to Robinson.
As a result, he believes ‘there is an opportunity’ for Heaton to make the move to Leeds as he tells Orta to sign capable competition for current Whites number one Illan Meslier.
Robinson tells Orta to sign Heaton for Leeds
“I’d love to see them go and sign Tom Heaton in the summer. I think he would be a great signing for Leeds,” explained the pundit to MOT Leeds News.
“He’s back from injury and one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League in my opinion.
“He’s going to really struggle to get back in the Aston Villa side the way Martinez is playing. That’s something he’s not going to be happy with at his age, he’ll want to be playing.
“I think there’s an opportunity for him to come to Leeds. It would be a great move for both parties.”
Transfer Tavern take
Whether or not Leeds do swoop for Heaton remains to be seen, but he could be a proven option to have at a relatively cheap price.
Heaton’s knee ligament injury last campaign resulted in Martinez being signed for Villa and keeping the starting spot ever since, but now the 34-year-old is back from injury, he could prove a viable asset to interested parties.
