In a recent interview, former Premier League footballer, Alan Hutton, discussed the potential summer interest in Leeds United winger, Helder Costa.
However, the £36,000-per-week winger has found his game time under Marcelo Bielsa become more limited this season, with the 27-year-old starting just 10 Premier League fixtures for the club this term.
As a result, Phil Hay has claimed that, if Victor Orta plans to bring in new signings at Leeds this summer, then Costa’s position in the side is very much “at-risk”.
And, speaking recently to Football Insider, Hutton suggested that Costa could indeed leave the club at the end of the season, before suggesting that a large number of Championship sides will be interested in a move for the winger.
He said: “If [Bielsa] sees an opportunity to cash in, I think they can still make some money off him. There’ll be a lot of teams, especially high Championship teams, that will be interested. He’s definitely got that X factor on his day so I understand what they’re thinking.”
Should Leeds sell Helder Costa this summer?
Transfer Tavern Take
Indeed, as Hutton suggests, Costa has shown this season that, on his day, he can be an extremely valuable player, such as when he bagged a brace and earned a WhoScored match rating of 8.23 in the Whites’ 4-3 win over Fulham, or when he provided an assist in the club’s 3-0 victory at Villa Park, earning a match rating of 7.38.
However, unfortunately for Costa, these flashes of brilliance have been few and far between, as the winger’s average WhoScored match rating of 6.31 over his total of 19 Premier League appearances ranks him as Leeds’ sixth-worst player in the top flight.
As such, perhaps the step down to a Championship side this summer, as Hutton suggests, would be a move that suits all parties.
