Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has admitted defeat in the race to sign Daniel James from Manchester United.
With deadline fast approaching, Leeds are seemingly still keen to bolster their squad options, having been linked with a large number of players over the last few weeks.
Having failed to make a move to Elland Road in January 2019, the Welsh winger moved to Old Trafford, making a good start to life with the Red Devils, netting three Premier League goals in his first four games, per Transfermarkt.
Despite that impressive start, James has not scored in the top flight since and he has now somewhat fallen down the pecking order with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
Touching on his side’s interest in James, Leeds owner Radrizzani has said that despite the youngster being top of their transfer wish list, a move will not develop between now and deadline day.
“Dan [James] is on top of our list but seems he will be staying at Man Utd,” he told Stretty News.
“There is nothing.”
The Yorkshire club continued their impressive start to the Premier League season with a 1-1 draw against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City on Saturday evening.
Raheem Sterling opened the scoring for the Citizens at Elland Road before summer signing Rodrigo Moreno levelled just before the hour mark to make it seven points out of a possible 12.
James’ previous talents and impressive form for Swansea City and United make Leeds’ interest seem justified, but the winger’s struggles over the last six months in the Premier League could go against that.
Marcelo Bielsa largely depends on consistent form on a weekly basis from his players and James would need time to adjust to a new club and re-find that consistency.
Demarai Gray has, over the last few days, emerged as a potential signing, and whilst he has struggled to gain regular playing time for Leicester, he would seemingly offer more at this current point in time, having contributed with 30 goals during his time with the Foxes.
