Leeds United: Approach made for Tottenham Hotspur defender - Leeds United Transfer Rumours

Leeds United have reportedly made an approach to sign Tottenham Hotspur left-back Ryan Sessegnon, joining Celtic in declaring an interest in the defender.

Elland Road boss Marcelo Bielsa has followed up his successful Championship title win and promotion to the Premier League with some good additions to his squad so far.

Former Valencia and Spain international Rodrigo Moreno has arrived, whilst Diego Llorente joined from La Liga club Real Sociedad.

With the transfer window now coming to an end, Bielsa seems keen to add some more faces, being linked with the likes of Todd Cantwell from Norwich City and Michael Cuisance from Bayern Munich.

Another name to be linked with a move to the Yorkshire club is Sessegnon and a report from The Scottish Mail via TEAMtalk has claimed Leeds are interested in the former Fulham man.

Bielsa’s reported interest in the youngster does come under threat, however, with Ajax, Hertha Berlin, Celtic, Brighton and Hove Albion, and Southampton linked.

The defender, who is reportedly on around £64,000 a week at Spurs, joined Spurs from Fulham last summer in a move worth £25m, but he has featured just 12 times for Jose Mourinho’s side.

The Mail say that Spurs are now willing to allow the 20-year-old to spend time out on loan this season after the arrival of Sergio Reguillon from Real Madrid all-but ends his chances of featuring on a regular basis.

Rewind a few years ago and Sessegnon was aiming for a spot in England’s Euro 2020 squad, but his move to Spurs has somewhat put any chances of featuring for England on the back burner.

The youngster needs to find a club where he can consistently feature and return to the form that warranted his move to North London from Fulham last summer.

Leeds could be a good place to start, but would Sessegnon be preferred over the much experienced and committed Stuart Dallas?

Dallas has started the season in good form, featuring in all three of Leeds’ games, securing a respectable 6.98 out of ten grading on Whoscored.

It is safe to say then that Sessegnon will not exactly be guaranteed regular football if he moves to Elland Road, so time will tell if he’d fancy such a move…
