Leeds United attacker Tyler Roberts has struggled for game time since the club got promoted to the Premier League. It could have looked like he was surplus to requirements, but Marcelo Bielsa’s stance on his future has now emerged.
The latest on Tyler Roberts
According to Football Insider, Leeds are set to turn down offers for Roberts in the January transfer window. The only way he can leave is if they have an ‘A-list’ replacement secured before his departure.
Bielsa would seemingly like to keep the young Wales international, shutting down any rumours of a possible exit in the new year.
This is clever from Leeds
Roberts has only played 231 minutes of football this season, (Transfermarkt) so he has been barely-used by the manager and rarely seen by supporters.
However, Noel Whelan was full of praise for the player in the past, as he said: “Now you’ve got Tyler Roberts who I think has been looking fantastic in that position, he poses a different kind of threat, he has a little more pace about him, he is great with the ball at his feet and he defends more.”
Bielsa does not want to lose squad depth no matter if they are struggling to create an impact. Especially when they are battling in the Premier League, so it makes perfect sense that they do not want to sell Roberts unless they find an immediate replacement.
Hopefully the 21 year-old can start showing his quality and prove to the club that he can make it in this division and repay Bielsa’s apparent faith in his potential.
