Leeds United were linked with moves for Championship duo Jason Knight and Louie Sibley last week and a recent update on the players suggests that now could be the best time to look to sign them.
The latest on Sibley and Knight
According to The Sun, Derby County are trying to sell players in order to raise money to pay the delayed wages of their staff. As a result of this, the Rams have reportedly alerted clubs who they think the likes of Knight and Sibley could be sold to due of the major financial problems they have.
Should Leeds look to sign the duo?
Both players are just 19 years-old, and the fact that Leeds have been linked suggests that the Yorkshire side feel that both players have the potential to succeed at a higher level in the future.
They have both performed to a decent level this season in the Championship, despite the position of Derby in the division. Knight has featured 22 times (WhoScored). The central midfielder has scored twice and managed, on average, 1.1 tackles a game. Meanwhile Sibley has still looked like he has some great attacking intent in his 15 appearances this season (only five were starts). The fact he is fouled 1.4 times a game suggests that defences find it very tricky to tackle him cleanly.
Knight, in particular ,has impressed this season, and when Wayne Rooney managed to pick up his first win as Interim coach, he praised the midfielder. He said: “Knight gives you that, he gives you great energy all over the pitch.”
The two aren’t setting the world alight, but they are showing glimpses of promise, and under a manager like Marcelo Bielsa, they could fulfil their potential and become very good assets for Leeds.
The news that Derby are looking to sell players could be a huge boost for Leeds as it means that they could, perhaps, get the players for cheaper than first expected. If they do want to sign the duo, then now could be the best time to make a move.
