Leeds United are reportedly looking to improve their squad in the January transfer window and have been linked with a move for Erick Pulgar.
The latest on Erick Pulgar
As reported by Italian newspaper La Nazione, via The Boot Room, Leeds have made an enquiry to sign the midfielder from Italian side Fiorentina. The Italian media outlet also report that this would be a signing that Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa would approve of.
Would this be a good signing for Leeds?
The 26-year-old is a defensive midfielder at Fiorentina and has played for his country 24 times (Transfermarkt). He has managed over 200 appearances across his career. During this time, he has scored 26 goals and 15 assists. This is a decent record for a player in his position.
He was praised in the past by Cesare Prandelli, who said: “Pulgar is a player that I like a lot, he has good physical geometry, he is powerful.”
Leeds have an abundance of talent in midfield, like Kalvin Phillips, Mateusz Klich and Jamie Shackleton but new additions would still be welcomed.
Pulgar has shown in his ten Serie A appearances that he can help break up opposition attacks as he has managed, on average, one interception a game (WhoScored).
Bielsa’s side look pretty strong at the moment, so it would be more of an acquisition to add squad depth. The £11.25 million valued Chilean would definitely add some extra quality to the squad and it could be a good signing if Leeds decide to make a move.
