Leeds United winger Raphinha has been attracting interest from Liverpool and reports suggest that the club already have a replacement in mind if they cannot keep hold of the attacker.
The latest transfer update
According to reports in Spain, via Sport Witness, Marcelo Bielsa has identified Douglas Costa as the ‘chosen one’ should Raphinha leave in the summer.
At the moment though with no official interest in Raphinha, it looks like pursuing Costa will not happen for the foreseeable future.
Leeds should steer clear
Raphinha has picked up four goals and four assists (Transfermarkt) this term, a fantastic return for a 24-year-old player in a new league with a promoted team. His underlying attacking stats show that he’s been rather unfortunate not to have more goals. The tricky winger has managed 2.2 shots, 1.6 key passes and 1.6 successful dribbles a game (WhoScored).
Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu praised him in the past, comparing him to one of the most frightening wingers football has see. He said: “I see him in Robben’s position. He’s just 24 and can reach Robben’s level in the years to come. He’s a very strong player, naturally left-footed but can play on the right too. And he is ruthless and unstoppable when cutting in from the wings. He’s on the same level as James Rodríguez.”
That being said, he has played 22 times this season for club and country and hasn’t performed to his best level.
In these games, he has only scored one goal and registered two assists (WhoScored). He has managed 0.4 shots, 0.6 key passes and 0.9 successful dribbles a game. These stats highlight that he is not having the best of campaigns and Leeds should steer clear.
He is also 30 years old, so they would be signing him when his quality is starting to decrease.
