The January transfer window is just over a month away and with Leeds having a decent but not exceptional start to the season they will certainly be eyeing any possible upgrades in the market. This has seen them linked with an emerging La Liga star.
Leeds linked with Riqui Puig
According to 90min, Leeds United are one of several sides who have been offered the chance to sign Barcelona midfielder Riqui Puig on loan for the remainder of the season.
The agent of the midfielder is keen to find him a temporary new home in January to ensure he reaches his potential. Puig does not want to leave permanently and has not given up on his dream of making it at Camp Nou.
Would Puig be a good signing?
The Barcelona man was praised by former manager Quique Setien. He said: “He has come out with a lot of energy and he has done an extraordinary job. It is not easy to join the team, but this is what he should do. Take advantage of the minutes like today.”
The midfielder has drawn some big comparisons, with Daniele Massaro believing he could be ‘the new Andrés Iniesta’.
He has made 17 appearances for the first team, with only one coming this season (Transfermarkt). However he has definitely showcased his potential in the UEFA Youth League. He has played ten times in the competition and picked up three assists and three goals.
Therefore, Leeds making a loan move for the 21 year-old could be absolutely ideal, as they can see whether he is good enough to compete in the Premier League before deciding on a permanent offer.
He has only played three minutes in La Liga this campaign, but with the praise he has received, it’s a low risk high reward type of move.
