Writing on Twitter, reliable Whites correspondent Phil Hay has dropped an enticing transfer claim as he shares his behind the scenes update from Elland Road – going on to say that ‘Leeds United have plans‘ to find cover for Kalvin Phillips in the summer.
Phil Hay shares enticing Leeds transfer update
As he relayed his article from The Athletic on social media, Hay says that Victor Orta and co are eyeing cover for Phillips in the pivot following his injury – with the journalist believing himself that it is even more of a necessity following the 4-2 defeat to Arsenal.
Indeed, in his piece, Hay claims there is ‘talk afoot‘ behind the scenes about bringing in another recruit – which could come as music to some supporters’ ears given the lack of depth in that position.
He wrote: “There is talk afoot at Elland Road about recruiting another pivot in the summer transfer window, even as Bielsa continues to work on educating Struijk in that ultra-specific job.
“A pivot was one of the things director of football Victor Orta spent time on last month as he began to lay the ground and any recruitment there would be to cover for Phillips, rather than threatening his place in the team.”
Transfer Tavern take
Manager Marcelo Bielsa remains allusive regarding the expected return date for Phillips, with the Argentine simply stating his comeback is subject to ‘evolution’ (Leeds Live).
Given Leeds’ capitulation at the hands of Arsenal on Sunday, Orta and majority Whites owner Andrea Radrizzani could have even more reason to sign cover for Phillips.
Hay has now revealed that Orta has been planning to recruit a player of this mould in the summer even despite Bielsa’s work with Pascal Struijk in that position, but only time will tell who they end up signing at the end of the season.
