Leeds United playmaker Pablo Hernandez has struggled to set the Premier League alight this campaign and Phil Hay has revealed that a Spanish side have recently tried to tempt him away from Elland Road.
The latest on Hernandez
The Journalist for The Athletic reported: “Hearing from Spain that Castellon were hoping to tempt Pablo Hernandez back there this month but it won’t happen. Leeds not willing to lose him.”
Hernandez can still help Leeds this campaign
Hay raved over the midfielder last season after his last-minute winner at Swansea, as he said: ‘The guy is just unreal. Played like a demon since the restart.’ It is understandable to see the Spaniard to receive such praise as he shone in Leeds’ promotion season, scoring nine goals and picking up nine assists (WhoScored). He also managed on average 2.1 shots, 2.3 key passes and 1.1 successful dribbles per game.
This season hasn’t been the same for the 35 year-old as he has started just two games, been subbed on in seven and only picked up two assists so far (WhoScored).
However, Marcelo Bielsa clearly still believes he can get a tune out of the fan favourite, and given that the Whites have forged a bit of a reputation under the Argentine for burning out towards the end of the season, he is right to want as much depth as possible down the stretch. Hernandez’s homecoming will have to wait until the summer.
