Rodrigo has only been at Leeds United since the summer, but his performances have seemingly not unnoticed as Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing him.
The latest on Rodrigo
According to TuttoNapoli, via TEAMtalk, the Spaniard has emerged as a transfer target for Atletico. The Madrid-based club have recently terminated the contract of veteran Diego Costa and are urgently looking for a replacement in January. They are apparently keen on Rodrigo as they are looking for a forward who already has experience of playing in La Liga.
He is clearly highly rated in Spain, with former Barcelona manager Quique Setien describing him as “extraordinary” in the past.
This is a blow for Leeds
The striker has settled in nicely at Leeds and the transfer interest in him, which comes so soon after his arrival shows that he has performed well.
However, it could potentially be a blow to Leeds as Atletico are a big European side and this interest could see Rodrigo tempted to make the switch.
In his 14 Premier League appearances for Leed, which have included eight starts, he has scored three goals. This might not come across as a lot, but Patrick Bamford has been the main focal point of the team. Rodrigo’s in-game stats show that he has been a huge attacking threat; the player has managed 2.1 shots and 1.4 key passes a game (WhoScored).
Therefore, Leeds will be wanting to do everything possible to keep the player and hopefully, they will be able to do so.
