Leeds United look like they will not be doing much business this transfer window, but reports are suggesting they are already looking at a defender who could be their first signing in the summer.
Leeds keen on Romain Perraud
According to Le10 Sport, Ligue 1 left-back Romain Perraud is a transfer target for the Whites in the summer. They have reportedly already made contact with his current club Stade Brest.
However, it might not be an easy acquisition as fellow Premier League side Southampton are also interested and have also made contact.
Would this be a good signing?
The defender, who is valued at £7.20m, is only 23 years-old, but looks to be a solid full-back and is currently having a very good season in Ligue 1. He has made 21 appearances in the division, managing on average 1.7 tackles, 1.2 interceptions and 1.9 clearances per game (WhoScored).
He has also been a great attacking threat for his side, managing 1.3 shots and one key pass a game. The Frenchman has an impressive three goals and five assists to his name this season.
Currently, Leeds have Ezgjan Alioski and Leif Davis as their first team left-backs. However, Alioski has only managed 0.8 interceptions and 1.1 clearances per game in the Premier League (WhoScored), so is perhaps showing his weakness in the defensive aspects, given that he is naturally a more advanced player.
It is interesting to see Director of Football Victor Orta scouting summer targets so Leeds can be more than just a club who battle for safety next season, and it shows Andrea Radrizzani wasn’t lying about the club’s plans for the future.
Perraud looks to be a typical Bielsa player as he offers a lot going forward and loves bombing down the wing and overlapping the forward players – five assists from full-back at this point in the season is an excellent return.
