Phil Hay believes it would make sense for Jesse Marsch to hand Maximilian Wober his first lot of Leeds United minutes this weekend.

The Lowdown: Changes to be made by Marsch

Wober has been brought into Leeds to fill the void left by Junior Firpo's injury woes and replace Pascal Struijk who's been playing in an unnatural role as a left-sided defender in a back four.

The Austrian international was presented to the Elland Road crowd when they faced West Ham during the week and after a few days worth of training, he could be in line to make his debut in the FA Cup this weekend.

Given Leeds will have almost a week to rest and recover after their Cardiff City game before they turn out in the Premier League against Aston Villa, Marsch may not be forced into much rotation this weekend.

The Latest: Wober should start against Cardiff

Hay has insisted on The Phil Hay Show that Wober should be handed some meaningful minutes as a way to help him get to grips with his new teammates and tactics.

He said: (53:30) "Marsch did say that he'd be available at the weekend and it would kind of make sense to get him going without a doubt. I think there will be some players rested I don't think it will be 100% full strength."

The Verdict: Marsch should go strong

Given the fact that Leeds are winless in their last five games, it would make sense for Marsch to not make many changes and instead, allow his regular starters to get into a winning groove by trying to beat a poor Cardiff side sitting near the bottom of the Championship.

One change he should look to make either from the start or some time during the second half is to hand Wober his debut as it's a pretty nice way to ease him into English football against a side from a lower division and one that will have more focus on the league instead of a cup tie.

Wober will be hoping that given he's been playing regularly for RB Salzburg this season he should be able to slip into Marsch's side pretty easily and it will also allow his teammates and the Leeds fans to see what he's like on the pitch having been hailed as a 'real leader' by RB Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund.
