Leeds United have been given a possible boost in their quest to sign Nahitan Nandez this summer after he failed to turn up to a Cagliari friendly.

The Lowdown: Leeds show interest in Nandez

The Whites have been linked with a host of players during the transfer window, with the likes of Kristoffer Klaesson and Junior Firpo coming in, as well as Jack Harrison joining permanently.

One player who has been continually tipped to sign for Leeds is Nandez, who impressed for Cagliari last season, making 31 starts in Serie A, scoring two goals and setting up another two. The midfielder also showed his combative nature by winning 6.1 duels per game.

The Latest: Fresh update emerges

According to Cagliari director Stefano Capozucca [via Tuttomercatoweb], Nandez has failed to turn up for the club's pre-season friendly with Mallorca, stating: "Nandez did not show up for the appointment to depart for Mallorca and this was without permission from the club."

It suggests that the 25-year-old has made up his mind over his future, with a move away from his current club looking on the cards.

The Verdict: Inter the likely destination

Nandez could be a great signing for Leeds if they can still get him - he has won 41 caps for Uruguay, which speaks volumes about his pedigree - but Inter Milan seems to be his most likely destination.

That being said, the Serie A champions' dire financial situation could force them to sell a number of star players, so that could potentially scupper the move if they fail to accrue the requisite funds.

If that does happen, Marcelo Bielsa would be wise to swoop for the 25-year-old, with Nandez a top-quality midfield destroyer 9as evidenced by his duels rate from 2020/21) who could slot in alongside Kalvin Phillips.
