Leeds United: Paul Robinson tips Whites to make last-gasp Said Benrahma bid

Leeds United: Paul Robinson tips Whites to make last-gasp Said Benrahma bid - Leeds United

Former Leeds United goalkeeper Paul Robinson has tipped the club to make a last-gasp move for Said Benrahma from Brentford this week.

Elland Road manager Marcelo Bielsa has been excellent in adding strength and depth to his squad after gaining promotion to the Premier League from the Championship this summer.

Significant arrivals include the likes of Rodrigo Moreno, Diego Llorente and European deadline day signing Raphinha.

With the domestic transfer window set to close next Friday, all eyes are on Bielsa to further add to his squad, having been linked with the likes of Todd Cantwell. The Norwich midfielder has been long linked with a move to the Yorkshire club, but that interest seems to have gone cold and a fresh link to Benrahma has now emerged.

Robinson tips Leeds to make Said Benrahma move

Algeria international Benrahma has been one of the Championship’s top performers over the last few seasons, contributing to Brentford’s play-off run last term with 17 goals and nine assists.

Robinson, who was speaking to MOT Leeds News, has followed up a previous claim from The Athletic’s Phil Hay back in July that Leeds were keen on the winger.

“I’m surprised he’s still there, to be honest,” Robinson said on Benrahma’s current situation.

“He’s been heavily linked but because the domestic transfer window’s still open, it probably has pushed that one through with the urgency others have gone through.

“I’d be very surprised if he’s still at Brentford after October 16 because he’s got a lot of suitors.

“But I don’t know where he’d fit in at Leeds after Raphinha arrived. They’ve got an abundance of talent in that area and it would be buying a player for the sake of buying a player.

“If I was Benrahma, I’d look at the Leeds squad and think: ‘Where would I fit in?’

“He probably won’t go to Leeds due to the fact he won’t be playing every week.”

Would Said Benrahma be a good signing for Leeds?

Benrahma would seemingly be a superb signing for Leeds and, along with the likes of Helder Costa, Jack Harrison, Raphinha and emerging talent Ian Poveda, Bielsa would have adequate attacking options on the flanks.

The Algerian is arguably one of the top players in the Championship and he will have seen former teammate Ollie Watkins secure a Premier League move to Aston Villa over the summer. It would be disappointing to see Benrahma miss out on that top-flight chance.
