# Leeds: Whites eyeing Viktor Gyokeres

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) ‘have half an eye’ on Coventry City striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to transfer insider [Dean Jones](https://twitter.com/DeanJonesSoccer?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Eauthor).**

### The Lowdown: Gyokeres profiled

Gyokeres is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/profil/spieler/325443) a centre-forward who can also play on the wing and joined Coventry on a [permanent](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/transfers/spieler/325443) basis from Brighton last year.

The Sweden international has scored [55](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/325443) senior goals for club and country during his career, [22](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/325443) of which have come for his current employers.

The 24-year-old is valued at a career-high £4.5m by [Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/profil/spieler/325443) and has been labelled as a [powerful](https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sport/football/football-news/coventry-city-transfers-viktor-gyokeres-24634767) player by Coventry manager Mark Robins.

### The Latest: Leeds links

Jones was talking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88053829-leeds-have-half-an-eye-on-unbelievable-53-goal-star-at-elland-road) regarding Leeds’ search for a striker and name-checked Gyokeres as a potential late new target.

> “They have half an eye on Gyokeres at Coventry, and I’ve still got a feeling that if they were to go down that route, they might end up turning to him instead (of Brereton Diaz).”

### The Verdict: Premier League ready?

Leeds are in need of a new forward before this evening’s deadline, especially following Rodrigo’s suspected [dislocated shoulder](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-11162323/Leeds-face-injury-blow-form-Rodrigo-suffers-suspected-dislocated-shoulder-against-Everton.html) injury on Tuesday evening.

Gyokeres could well be a gamble by Leeds chiefs, despite coming off his [best season](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/325443) in front of goal last season. He netted [18](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/325443) goals for Coventry last season, however, he has no top-flight experience in England and still seems to be finding his feet in the second tier with just [four](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/viktor-gyokeres/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/325443) goals during the 2020/21 campaign.

Leeds officials may well view Gyokeres as a cheaper alternative to someone like Hwang Hee-chan, though, so it could be one to keep an eye on.
