# Leeds: Whites unlikely to sign Philipp Max

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) are unlikely to sign PSV left-back Philipp Max following a hands-off warning from manager Ruud van Nistelrooy, [LeedsLive](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/ex-man-utd-superstar-delivers-24642825) reports.**

### The Lowdown: £7m bid

The Whites appear to be on the hunt for a new left-back before the transfer window slams shut, with Junior Firpo out through injury and Leif Davis recently sold to Ipswich Town.

It looks as if centre-back Pascal Struijk will be the man used by Jesse Marsch for the time being after he got the nod in the problem position for the club’s [final pre-season friendly](https://theathletic.com/3464667/2022/08/01/leeds-united-rodrigo-cagliari/).

One player who has been linked is Max, with [reports](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/ex-man-utd-superstar-delivers-24642825) suggesting that Leeds made a £7m offer for the 28-year-old, described as ‘[dangerous in the forward areas](https://www.bundesliga.com/en/bundesliga/news/who-is-philipp-max-augsburg-left-back-best-in-germany-8777)’ by former Augsburg coach Martin Schmidt.

### The Latest: Van Nistelrooy’s comments

[LeedsLive](https://www.leeds-live.co.uk/sport/leeds-united/ex-man-utd-superstar-delivers-24642825) relayed comments from Van Nistelrooy on Max in a story shared on Tuesday.

He isn’t thinking about letting the left-back go over the coming weeks, with the report labelling a move to Elland Road as ‘unlikely’.

### The Verdict: Tymon instead?

Leeds could do with getting a move on in their pursuits of both a left-back and a striker, with [Charles De Ketelaere](https://www.acmilan.com/en/news/articles/media/2022-08-02/official-statement-charles-de-ketelaere) now an AC Milan player, and if Max isn’t the man to come in at the back, it could be wise to look at Stoke City’s Josh Tymon.

[Reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-josh-tymon-bid-transfer-news/) last month suggested that the Whites were weighing up a move for the 23-year-old, who was a [regular](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/leistungsdaten/spieler/419929/plus/0?saison=2021) in the Championship last season.

The Englishman may not be too expensive, can play [further forward](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/josh-tymon/leistungsdaten/spieler/419929/plus/0?saison=2021) when required and loves a [nutmeg](https://twitter.com/StatsBomb/status/1524015229415440385?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1524015229415440385%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.scottishdailyexpress.co.uk%2Fsport%2Ffootball%2Fjosh-tymon-rangers-target-wins-27150226), so he could be the ideal attacking full-back to rival Firpo going forward.
