# Leeds: Whites could miss out on Miguel Gutierrez signing

**West Ham are believed to be interested in signing rumoured Leeds United transfer target Miguel Gutierrez on loan this summer.**

### The Lowdown: Gutierrez linked with Leeds move

The Whites have been on the lookout for reinforcements down the left, with Ezgjan Alioski departing Elland Road after his contract [expired](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ezgjan-alioski/profil/spieler/129604).

Junior Firpo [arrived](https://twitter.com/BBCWYS/status/1412365750300459008?s=20) from Barcelona on Tuesday, but Gutierrez has also been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-whites-could-sign-miguel-gutierrez-on-loan/) with a loan switch from Real Madrid. Given that he is just a teenager, he is likely seen as a long-term addition, rather than a competitor to Firpo.

The 19-year-old made [six appearances](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/395788/Show/Miguel-Guti%C3%A9rrez) in La Liga last season, but may be keen for a move away, as he looks for more regular first-team football.

### The Latest: West Ham keen on left-back

According to [*The Daily Star*](https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-34m-rated-former-24462645), West Ham have now ‘held talks’ with Gutierrez over a temporary move to the London Stadium.

A move to the Premier League is thought to appeal to the youngster, with Madrid also seeing it as a good opportunity for him to mature as a player.

With that in mind, it looks like we could have quite the battle on our hands between the two surprise packages of last season’s Premier League.

### The Verdict: Have the Whites moved on?

Gutierrez is a talented player who could be an asset for Leeds – Zinedine Zidane has [described](https://www.managingmadrid.com/2021/5/14/22435231/zidane-marcelo-press-conference-granada) him as ‘phenomenal’ – but with Firpo joining on Tuesday, is there still a need to sign him?

Leif Davis can represent the Whites’ young second-choice left-back option moving forward, so if Gutierrez were to follow Firpo from Spain to Yorkshire, one would have to assume Davis is not really seen as a genuine contender for a future place in the first-team.

Therefore, whether the club moves for Gutierrez could now be used as a good indicator of how highly Marcelo Bielsa rates Davis – allow the Hammers to swoop in and perhaps we could see a lot more of Davis as a back-up to Firpo in the near future.
