# Leeds: Whites had late move for Harrison Ashby blocked

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/) had a late move for West Ham defender Harrison Ashby blocked, according to [Alan Nixon](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/19700268/west-ham-loan-transfer-odilon-kossounou-failed/).**

### The Lowdown: Deadline Day chaos

The Whites were involved in plenty of deadline day drama, with Victor Orta failing in late moves for two forwards in [Cody Gakpo](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1565254474939211776) and [Bamba Dieng](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1565450908028248064).

Leeds did end up bringing in a forward in teenager [Wilfried Gnonto](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/team-news/30323/leeds-united-complete-deadline-day-deal-for-wilfried-gnonto), although it appears as if another youngster was wanted at Elland Road.

[Reports](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-whites-make-harrison-ashby-offer/) on deadline day said that Leeds made an offer for Ashby, who has been hailed as [‘fearless’](https://thisisfutbol.com/2020/09/blogs/premier-league/west-ham-united-journalists-praise-harrison-ashby/) by West Ham podcaster Sam Delaney, and Nixon has backed up those claims.

### The Latest: Blocked move

Nixon shared a West Ham transfer story for [The Sun](https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/19700268/west-ham-loan-transfer-odilon-kossounou-failed/) on Saturday evening in which he name-checked Leeds when it came to Ashby.

The reliable reporter said that the Hammers blocked moves to Leeds and Newcastle for the 20-year-old despite him initially being allowed to leave and will now look to offer him fresh terms.

### The Verdict: Well-stocked

Ashby is [primarily](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harrison-ashby/profil/spieler/559130) a right-back who can also line out at centre-back and has already made [six](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harrison-ashby/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/559130/verein/379) senior appearances for the Hammers, [one](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/harrison-ashby/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/559130/verein/379) of which came this season in a Europa Conference League qualifier.

It looks as if the 20-year-old could be a future star, so if West Ham didn’t go back on their word, Leeds could have struck gold by signing another Irons starlet after [Sonny Perkins](https://www.leedsunited.com/news/team-news/30111/sonny-perkins-signs-for-leeds-united).

However, Jesse Marsch’s squad is already [well-stocked](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/leeds-united/kadernachposition/verein/399) at right-back with Rasmus Kristensen, Luke Ayling and youngster Cody Drameh, so the club may not view it as a major blow. Nonetheless, it seems as if transfer deadline day could have been very different for the Whites if all went to plan.
