# Leeds: Whites make contact with Javi Galan

**Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has reportedly made contact with Huesca defender Javi Galan over a summer move to Elland Road.**

### The Lowdown: Leeds search for new left-back

Assuming [Ezgjan Alioski](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-pundit-claims-ezgjan-alioski-decision-is-imminent/) leaves the Whites this summer, it is imperative that Bielsa signs a new left-back in order to fill the void left by the North Macedonian.

A host of names have been linked with joining Leeds, from [Nicolas Tagliafico](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9507647/Leeds-Manchester-City-Inter-red-alert-Ajax-ready-sell-Nicolas-Tagliafico-13m.html) to [Junior Firpo](https://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/sport/football/leeds-united/attacking-barcelona-left-back-junior-firpo-on-victor-ortas-leeds-united-transfer-shortlist-latest-on-matheus-cunha-and-nahitan-nandez-3287897), and [Galan](https://sportwitness.co.uk/already-suitcases-ready-player-ready-sign-leeds-united-quick-deal-suggested/) is another thought to be in the mix.

The 26-year-old averaged an impressive [3.3 dribbles per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/369497/Show/Javi-Gal%C3%A1n) in La Liga last season, which was [only bettered](https://www.whoscored.com/Regions/206/Tournaments/4/Seasons/8321/Stages/18851/PlayerStatistics/Spain-LaLiga-2020-2021) by Lionel Messi (4.5) in the Spanish top flight.

### The Latest: Whites make move for Galan

According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-united-in-contact-with-galan/), Bielsa has made a move to bring Galan to Elland Road, speaking to the Spaniard about how he could fit into this Leeds side.

It is stated that the 26-year-old is now the Whites’ first-choice left-back target, even though they know there will be competition for his signature.

### The Verdict: Ideal Alioski replacement?

Should Alioski leave, Galan looks like he could be the perfect candidate to come in and make the left-back spot his own. His aforementioned dribbling ability highlights his attack-minded full-back nature, which is likely to appeal to Bielsa and suit his [bold style of play](https://thefalse9.com/2020/10/marcelo-bielsa-tactics-leeds-formation.html#:~:text=Bielsa%20plays%20a%204%2D1,around%20to%20detect%20passing%20avenues.).

Not only that, but Galan can defend when he needs to, averaging [2.4 tackles per game](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/369497/Show/Javi-Gal%C3%A1n) in the league last season, as well as 1.4 clearances. This well-rounded defender would appear to be the right man for Leeds to bring in to fill Alioski’s shoes.
