# Leeds : Whites ‘still’ interested in Azzedine Ounahi

**[Leeds United](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/) are ‘still’ interested in completing the signing of Angers and Morocco star Azzedine Ounahi, according to Fabrizio Romano.**

### The Lowdown: Leeds keen on signing Ounahi

The Whites have been [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-news/leeds-premier-league-azzedine-ounahi-morocco-transfer-news-updates/) with signing the 22-year-old during the January transfer window, with numerous reports suggesting they face a battle with Napoli to secure his signature.

Ounahi wasn’t exactly a big name before the 2022 [World Cup](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/world-cup-2022/) in Qatar but his influential midfield performances helped Morocco get to the semi-finals and he has been in fine club form too, [ranking highly](https://fbref.com/en/players/83299cc0/Azzedine-Ounahi) in most creative metrics from midfield.

The Angers man [started six](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/392361/Show/Azzedine-Ounahi) of his country’s seven matches in Qatar, receiving impressive match ratings of [7.13 and 7.20](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/392361/Show/Azzedine-Ounahi) in the triumphs over Spain and Portugal respectively.

### The Latest: New update emerges

Taking to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/FabrizioRomano/status/1617814286289752066?s=20&t=LCcAVng2yTkjMdHFAO0K-Q) on Tuesday, Romano confirmed Leeds have Weston McKennie on their list as a possible option, before saying:

*“The list still includes Azzedine Ounahi after opening bid made weeks ago”*

### The Verdict: Get it done

Ounahi looks like a fantastic prospect who also shouldn’t be too expensive, with his reputation not yet at a stage where he would cost a huge amount and a £25m asking price [reported](https://www.leedsunited.news/news/leeds-not-convinced-25m-asking-price-for-azzedine-ounahi-is-fair/).

His age and all-round profile are ideal for Leeds, however, with the Moroccan possessing endless energy in the middle of park, which is backed up by running an [unrivalled](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/12040/12763918/azzedine-ounahi-moroccos-elegant-industrious-midfielder-counts-luis-enrique-among-his-new-admirers-following-breakout-world-cup) 14.7km in the win over Spain at the World Cup.

Tyler Adams has come in and added much-needed bite and youth to Jesse Marsch’s midfield and Ounahi could be the perfect foil for him, as he was for fellow tough-tackler [Sofyan Amrabat](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/ounahi-amrabat-morocco-midfielders-luis-enrique-mourinho-europe-top-clubs/blt55546dd185a796de) in Qatar.

The fact that Jose Mourinho singled Ounahi out as [‘absolutely incredible’](https://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/mourinho-impressed-morocco-coach-world-cup-fighting-spirit-singles-out-ounahi-for-praise/bltb5ae4b7813cc261d) further adds to his growing reputation and he could help take Leeds up another gear, making them more of a pressing machine than than already are.
