# Leeds: Whites to maintian Lewis O’Brien dialogue

**Leeds United remain interested in a January move for Huddersfield Town midfielder Lewis O’Brien, according to a fresh rumour which has emerged.**

### The Lowdown: O’Brien endlessly linked with move

Arguably no player was [linked](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/leeds-united-transfer-rumours/leeds-whites-tipped-to-sign-lewis-obrien-in-january/) with a move to Elland Road more intensely than O’Brien in the summer, with constant reports suggesting the Whites wanted to sign him.

The 22-year-old ended up staying put at Championship side Huddersfield, but it seems unlikely that he will remain there for long.

### The Latest: January move to Elland Road?

According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/leeds-told-to-pay-20m-to-seal-obrien-deal-after-sources-update-pundit/), a Thorp Arch source has informed them that Leeds ‘will keep a dialogue open’ regarding a move for O’Brien in January.

A winter move to Elland Road is described as a ‘possibility’, with former Arsenal and Everton striker Kevin Campbell claiming “around £15million or £20million” could see them get their man.

### The Verdict: Phillips replacement?

O’Brien may still be a work in progress, but he is a formidable performer for Huddersfield, with journalist Steven Chicken [calling](https://www.lancs.live/sport/football/transfer-news/burnley-transfer-news-lewis-obrien-18778514) him ‘blistering’ in the past.

With Kalvin Phillips [potentially not sticking around forever](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/kalvin-phillips-liverpool-transfer-21280146) at Elland Road, it could be that Marcelo Bielsa views O’Brien as a long-term replacement for the Leeds and England star.

The Huddersfield ace possesses a similar level of energy off the ball and quality on it – he is averaging [1.2 tackles](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/366083/Show/Lewis-O-Brien) per game in the league this season – and should only improve in the years to come.
