Former Leicester City centre-back Steve Howey has described Wesley Fofana’s sickening recent injury as a major blow for the club.
The 20-year-old, who made a huge impression during his first season at the King Power Stadium, has been ruled out until at least the New Year after suffering a broken leg against Villarreal in pre-season.
Fofana featured 28 times in the Premier League last season but is now expected to miss the first half of the campaign and the entire Europa League group stage.
Do Leicester need another centre-back?
Brendan Rodgers has reacted quickly to the setback by bringing in Jannik Vestergaard from Southampton, with Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans Leicester’s only other genuine centre-back options, even though midfielder Daniel Amartey started there in the Community Shield last Saturday.
However, Howey whilst recognises Fofana’s ability, he’s confident his former side can cope in his absence.
He exclusively told The Transfer Tavern:
“It’s a blow because he’s a very, very good player. I was very impressed with him last season; I had never heard of him.
“It’s obviously a big blow for him, but they’ve got the strength in depth now to cover that, but he’ll certainly be a miss.”
