Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers' future remains very much up in the air ahead of tonight's clash against Nottingham Forest, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

The Lowdown: Massive game for Leicester

The Foxes are back in Premier League action on Monday night, welcoming local rivals Forest to the King Power Stadium for what is a crucial game for both teams.

Rodgers' men go into the match bottom of the table but Steve Cooper's side are only one place and three points ahead of them, with both managers in dire need of a result. Indeed, The Athletic have reported that the Leicester boss is on ‘extremely thin ice’ in terms of his position at the club.

The outcome of tonight's match could be decisive in the regard, and one reporter has shared some insight regarding the 49-year-old's status.

The Latest: Journo gives Rodgers update

Speaking to GiveMeSport, Jacobs claimed that Rodgers has had assurances during the international break but will be "well aware" that potential replacements are also being lined up.

He stated:

"I don’t think it’s win or bust against Nottingham Forest but it is a derby, obviously, so the manner of either a win or a loss is going to be important as well.

"Leicester will have 100%, as I understand it, used the international break to, not only hold lengthy meetings with Rodgers, but also look at other options.

"Rodgers is well aware, he’s been in football for long enough, that this is normal that if he is to go, Leicester would have already started that process of seeing who’s out there, and who is interested."

The Verdict: Must-win match

Frankly, this match simply has to be viewed as a must-win for Rodgers, with failure to pick up all three points likely to end in his sacking.

Leicester simply have to pull away from the relegation zone as soon as possible, and defeat on Monday night would suddenly leave them six points adrift of 19th place and facing an uphill battle to clamber out of the bottom three.

Rodgers will hope that the international break came at a good for him and his players, with tonight's game against another struggling side in Forest hopefully signalling the start of a much-needed resurgence. If that doesn't happen, though, you fear the worst for him.
