Sky Sports reporter James Savundra has claimed that Leicester City will look at the loan market for a new centre-back heading into the final week of this month's transfer window.

The Lowdown: Rodgers to receive defensive reinforcements

Leicester are yet to make their first breakthrough in the transfer market, although Copenhagen's Victor Kristiansen looks to be edging closer to completing a mid-season switch.

The Denmark Under-21 international would provide some quality and depth in a Leicester defence that has been badly exposed this season, having shipped 33 goals in the Premier League, the fourth-worst in the league.

However, just the one signing isn't likely to be enough for Leicester to enjoy a comfortable second half of the season or please Brendan Rodgers, who's recently spoken out about how he can't magically make things better at the King Power Stadium.

The Latest: Leicester exploring the loan market

Savundra claimed live on Sky Sports that as deadline day approaches, Leicester will start to make moves for a new centre-back, although that would only be on a temporary basis to help ease their woes until Jonny Evans is back fit.

He said: "We also understand, in the last week of the window, Leicester are going to go after a centre-back, a potential loan deal for somebody because the likes of Vestergaard and Soyuncu are simply out of favour at the moment."

The Verdict: Foxes must add more depth

The Foxes currently find themselves dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle United and just two points above the bottom three having not won a league game since club football resumed post-World Cup.

Therefore, bringing in some depth and quality could be what Rodgers needs to show he can engineer a way out of this slump and help Leicester enjoy a better second half of the season.

Rodgers will know this season hasn't been good enough as the Foxes are performing in the bottom five of the league when it comes to expected goals allowed (xGA), losses and also shot-creating actions per 90 minutes, so they have problems at both ends of the pitch and seeing them struggle is not too much of a surprise.
