# Leicester City: St Etienne defender Wesley Fofana could be Foxes answer to Robert Huth – Opinion

**According to a report from[the Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8704207/Leicester-want-sign-St-Etienne-defender-Wesley-Fofana.html), Leicester City are eyeing a potential transfer swoop for St Etienne rising star Wesley Fofana – and the Foxes will be remiss if they don’t take this opportunity to bag a defender reminiscent of 2015/2016 Robert Huth.**

As per the Mail, City ‘[want to sign](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-8704207/Leicester-want-sign-St-Etienne-defender-Wesley-Fofana.html)‘ Fofana as manager Brendan Rodgers seeks more defensive cover ahead of the looming 2020/2021 Premier League campaign, but the Ligue 1 club’s £27 million valuation has thrown a potential spanner in the works.

Following the departure of Ben Chilwell and[recent reports linking](https://www.ntvspor.net/futbol/ozel-caglar-soyuncu-yu-barcelona-istiyor-5f2bf7fb0ee4c62570b07425) Caglar Soyuncu with a move away, the Midlands outfit may have to invest defensively if they want to remain European qualifying contenders.

Enter Fofana, who enjoyed a brilliant season for St Etienne over 2019/2020, as evident by his [WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/373946/History/Wesley-Fofana) stats which are similar to Leicester City title-winning colossus Huth.

While the German made far [more clearances and tackles on average](https://www.whoscored.com/Teams/14/Archive/England-Leicester?stageId=12496) under Claudio Ranieri during Leicester’s famous title win, Fofana beat his 15/16 record of [interceptions and successful aerial duels](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/373946/History/Wesley-Fofana) last campaign – marking him out as a real prospect and a potential key figure under Rodgers in future seasons.

Indeed, the 6ft 3 ace could well be a colossus worth the hassle, especially going by ex-Premier League midfielder Yohan Cabaye’s verdict on Fofana’s exploits in France.

Talking about Arsenal defender William Saliba to [the Ligue 1 podcast](https://podcast.ausha.co/official-ligue-1-podcast-french-football-lfp-le-beau-jeu/exclusive-debuchy-and-cabaye-on-arsenal-new-boy-william-saliba) (via [the Daily Mail](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7965007/Debuchy-Cabaye-praise-Arsenal-youngster-William-Saliba.html)), Cabaye also dropped some big praise for Fofana, calling him ‘[fantastic](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-7965007/Debuchy-Cabaye-praise-Arsenal-youngster-William-Saliba.html)‘ alongside the promising Gunners addition.

Whether or not Leicester opt to heavily invest remains to be seen, but given his huge potential, Fofana may well be worth the punt.
