Leicester City: Negotiations ‘well underway’ to sign Ajax defender Nicolas Tagliafico - Leicester City Transfer Rumours

According to an exclusive report by Calciomercato.it, Leicester City are ‘well underway’ in negotiations to sign Ajax star Nicolas Tagliafico as an alternative to Chelsea target Ben Chilwell – with the Eredivisie club asking for an alleged £40.5 million to complete the deal.

Indeed, Foxes full-back Chilwell continues to be heavily linked with a move to west London, and manager Brendan Rodgers will have to keep his eye on other options as rumours show no sign of slowing down.

Supporters, arguably, may be somewhat relieved by the latest whisper which suggests Leicester have already found their successor – with Argentina international Tagliafico possessing a wealth of experience on the biggest stages in Europe and the world.

Is Tagliafico your perfect heir to Ben Chilwell?

Yes, experienced and quality for £40.5m

Tagliafico has made 99 appearances in all competitions for Dutch frontrunners Ajax over an impressive three-year stint (Transfermarkt), all while amassing 25 caps for his country and featuring in the 2018 World Cup.

The 27-year-old also reached the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2018/2019 before going out to Tottenham, with Rodgers and co firmly eyeing the South American as Chilwell’s heir according to this report.

Tagliafico’s agent even told Radio Del Plata’s ‘Como te vaa, Benedetto’ programme that his client is ‘looking for a transfer’.

Compared to Chilwell, it’s clear who is the most combative of the pair – with Tagliafico averaging a higher number of tackles, interceptions and clearances per 90 in the league last season according to WhoScored.

However, Leicester’s star defender appears to have the edge as an overlapping full-back, putting in more crosses and making the superior amount of key passes in England’s top flight.

Defensively, it’s clear who is the most superior, and Rodgers may have just found his perfect replacement.
