According to an update courtesy of French news outlet le10sport, Leicester City have increased their offer for St Etienne star Wesley Fofana this summer and have reportedly lodged a £26.5 million for his services – with Paris-Saint Germain reportedly interested in a move for Caglar Soyuncu.
Fofana, who is seen as a real rising star in Ligue 1, with ex-Foxes boss Claude Puel eager to keep hold of him, is now at the centre of continued interest from Leicester after their first offer was rejected.
Would Fofana be the ideal replacement for Soyuncu?
No, only one Cags
Now, in their bid to land a promising talent, the club have offered a second sum to St Etienne – proposing a £26.5m fee amid continued reports that top European clubs are eyeing a move for Soyuncu.
PSG have been allegedly monitoring the Turk since late August, potentially forcing Leicester to up the ante in their search for an alternative.
Starting just 13 games for St Etienne last season, Fofana has clearly showed enough to warrant this intense interest, with his WhoScored stats serving as a stark indication of his potential.
Averaging 2.6 interceptions per 90 and winning 4.5 aerial duels in that time, those numbers beat Soyuncu who could be on the way out if PSG lodge a good enough offer.
As well as this, Fofana has earned top praise, with ex-Premier League midfielder Yohan Cabaye singing his praises along with Arsenal defender William Saliba.
Indeed, the former Crystal Palace and Newcastle midfielder called him a ‘fantastic‘ talent – but only time will tell whether Leicester do in fact land their man.
