# Liverpool: Reds join race to sign Levi Colwill

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) have joined the race to sign Chelsea defender Levi Colwill this summer, according to reports.**

### The Lowdown: Blues reluctant to sell

The [Premier League](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league-news/) centre-back is currently out on a season-long [loan](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/levi-colwill/transfers/spieler/614258) at Brighton, where his performances at The Amex have been catching the eye, but the Seagulls [don’t](https://www.90min.com/posts/chelsea-s-plans-for-levi-colwill-after-brighton-loan-01gtkcqr3qc0/amp) have the option to buy in the summer.

[90min](https://www.90min.com/posts/chelsea-s-plans-for-levi-colwill-after-brighton-loan-01gtkcqr3qc0/amp) report that Graham Potter’s side are reluctant to let the 20-year-old permanently leave and believe he has a role to play in the first team upon his return at the end of the season.

Following a fresh update, however, it sounds like [Jurgen Klopp](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/jurgen-klopp/) believes a deal could still be on the cards…

### The Latest: Liverpool eyeing Colwill

According to [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/sources-liverpool-coaches-seriously-impressed-by-levi-colwill-as-they-join-race-to-sign-him/), Liverpool are ‘tracking’ Colwill as they ‘plot a move’ ahead of the 2023/24 season.

The Reds believe that the 6 foot 2 colossus ‘fits the bill’ of what they are looking for in a centre-back and Klopp’s backroom staff are ‘seriously impressed’ by what they have already seen of him.

### The Verdict: One for the future

Colwill has been [hailed](https://twitter.com/sjohnsonsport/status/1521527089983365120?s=46&t=cVYwodEwJ5KqH22eIl4UYA) a ‘rising talent’ by journalist [Simon Johnson](https://twitter.com/SJohnsonSport) and he would be an excellent signing for the future of Liverpool.

The Southampton-born talent currently averages 2.1 aerial wins and two clearances per top-flight game ([WhoScored](https://www.whoscored.com/Players/421351/Show/Levi-Colwill)), alongside ranking in the [97th](https://fbref.com/en/players/700783e7/Levi-Colwill) percentile for most passes attempted by centre-backs.

Stamford Bridge’s academy graduate would also bring welcomed versatility with his ability to [operate](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/levi-colwill/leistungsdaten/spieler/614258) at left-back and in midfield alongside his natural position.

Colwill’s attributes will be extremely attractive to Klopp and having already made [two](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/levi-colwill/nationalmannschaft/spieler/614258) appearances for England’s U21s, has a huge career ahead of him.
