Under a tight transfer budget, Newcastle have been working to bring in some players to give Rafa Benitez a squad capable of being as close to the top 10 as possible.
So far, the club have brought in six players for a combined total of £23.13 million, Salomon Rondon being the most recent of those six recruits.
On the whole, it’s been a frustrating summer so far for the Toon faithful with even Rafa Benitez worried at the lack of transfer activity at the club.
Moreover, following Florian Lejeune’s injury, the club are now looking to bring in another central defender and have been linked with a move for PSG defender, Stanley N’Soki.
Continuing the French theme, French news outlet L’Equipe is reporting that Newcastle are pushing to complete a deal for Christopher Jullien before Thursday’s deadline.
The report states that the club have not yet bid for the defender although they are interested in bringing him to the Premier League.
It seems a no-brainer that the club would want the tall Frenchman, who formed a solid partnership with Issa Diop last season. The 25-year-old defender is valued at £5.4 million by Transfermarkt and might be an absolute steal for the Toon.
With only two days left in the window, however, Newcastle will have to work quickly to get the signing over the line.
With Florian Lejeune out combined with Chancel Mbemba’s exit, Newcastle need some defensive cover. If Mike Ashley can bring in the French defender, he may have just made a shrewd piece of business.
