# Liverpool: Pete O’Rourke believes Liverpool could sell Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

**Journalist Pete O’Rourke has suggested that [Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-news/) could be willing to cash in on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.**

### The lowdown: Uncertain future

Previously a major part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans prior to [wretched injury luck](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/verletzungen/spieler/143424) which started with a lengthy layoff due to a cruciate ligament tear in 2018, the 28-year-old has struggled to hold down a place in the Reds’ starting XI for some time now.

The England international – who is currently [sidelined](https://theathletic.com/news/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-suffers-injury-setback/lGefNVESbhBe/#:~:text=Jurgen%20Klopp%20has%20confirmed%20that,he%20needed%20to%20be%20replaced.) due to a hamstring issue picked up in pre-season against Crystal Palace – has been the subject of [reported](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/alex-oxlade-chamberlain-transfer-liverpool-27062217) interest from Aston Villa, West Ham and bitter rivals [Manchester United](https://www.footballinsider247.com/man-united-backed-in-bid-for-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-after-update-pundit/) during the ongoing transfer window.

However, despite his current contract [expiring](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/profil/spieler/143424) at the end of the upcoming season, Oxlade-Chamberlain has previously been [expected to remain at Anfield](https://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/minamino-oxlade-chamberlain-liverpool-transfers-27268792) for the 2022/23 campaign – a stance which could still change should suitable bids be forthcoming, according to one well-informed course…

### The latest: ‘If the right offer was made’

Speaking to [GiveMeSport](https://www.givemesport.com/88037254-liverpool-would-consider-selling-120k-a-week-star-at-anfield), O’Rourke has claimed that Liverpool would be open to the idea of selling the [35-cap](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/nationalmannschaft/spieler/143424/verein_id/3299) England ace this summer if acceptable offers come in.

The journalist said: “If the right offer was made for him, I think Liverpool will consider cashing in on Oxlade-Chamberlain, but it does seem like his injury problems might prevent clubs from making moves for him.”

### The verdict: Replacement needed

Although the summer business is [expected to be over](https://twitter.com/_pauljoyce/status/1537389572836974593?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1537389572836974593%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.101greatgoals.com%2Ftop-stories%2Fliverpool-agree-third-and-final-summer-signing-happy-to-wait-until-2023-for-midfield-additions%2F) for Julian Ward and Jurgen Klopp, if Oxlade-Chamberlain were to leave, a replacement would then need to be lined up in order to keep the midfield department adequately stocked.

Last season, the versatile former Arsenal man – who had been [renowned](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/1051871-alex-oxlade-chamberlain-and-the-5-best-young-talents-in-the-epl) for his lightning pace in his early career – [scored three times and provided three assists](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/leistungsdaten/spieler/143424/plus/0?saison=2021) in 29 appearances across all competitions for the Anfield outfit, but he only completed 90 minutes on five occasions.

After links to Sporting Lisbon gem Matheus Nunes were [dismissed](https://www.teamtalk.com/liverpool/matheus-nunes-transfer-resounding-update-trusted-source-doubles-down-klopp-plan) out of hand this week, there is seemingly no sign of instant arrivals on Merseyside, leading to the conclusion that the Reds would be eager to retain the [£14.4m-valued](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/alex-oxlade-chamberlain/marktwertverlauf/spieler/143424) midfielder, who was once described by Klopp as a [‘very valuable’](https://www.rousingthekop.com/2021/08/20/klopp-has-high-praise-for-keita-and-oxlade-chamberlain/) member of the ranks.

However, particularly in a World Cup year and in a fast-moving market, things can change quickly. Should Oxlade-Chamberlain decide that what is likely to be a bit-part role [behind](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/leistungsdaten/verein/31) Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Naby Keita, Thiago, Curtis Jones, James Milner and Harvey Elliott isn’t for him, there could well be movement between now and September 1.
