### Semedo addresses links to Liverpool

Semedo has now responded to speculation surrounding his future and in an interview with Portuguese [outlet O Jogo,](https://www.ojogo.pt/internacional/portugueses/noticias/ruben-semedo-liverpool-e-so-perguntas-dificeis-13134460.html) he was asked about Liverpool’s potential interest in him. The 26-year-old said:

> “Oh, only difficult questions. I heard that and it’s always good to see my name linked to big clubs. Let’s see what happens in the future.”

Semedo is currently valued at [£6.30 million by Transfermarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ruben-semedo/marktwertverlauf/spieler/197602) and the defender has been [a regular](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ruben-semedo/leistungsdaten/spieler/197602) for the Greek club this season. He has made [17 appearances in all competitions](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ruben-semedo/leistungsdaten/spieler/197602) so far, also playing in all six of the club’s Champions League group stage games.

### Semedo could shore up Liverpool’s defence

Because of the injuries sustained by Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez, Liverpool currently have only [one out-and-out centre-back fit](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/kadernachposition/verein/31) in Joel Matip, who was taken off in the recent game against Fulham because of a back issue. Jurgen Klopp has been hopeful that [Matip will be fit](https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9048977/Injury-ravaged-Liverpool-left-NO-fit-centre-backs-Joel-Matip-brought-problem.html) for the upcoming game against Tottenham.

This clearly shows that a lack of senior options for the centre-back role is a problem for the Reds and signing Semedo in January will help them address that issue.
