# Liverpool: Danny Mills fumes as Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson left out of FIFA’s World XI

**Former Premier League footballer Danny Mills was left astounded to find neither of Liverpool’s full-backs made FIFA’s World XI during their annual awards ceremony earlier this week.**

While [Jurgen Klopp](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/365352-jurgen-klopp-wins-best-fifa-mens-coach-award) picked up the men’s coach award after steering Liverpool to a sixth Champions League title, Mills could not believe that Andrew Robertson and Trent Alexander-Arnold were both missing as the best eleven was revealed.

Instead, a defence made up of teammate Virgil van Dijk, Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt, as well as Real Madrid duo Sergio Ramos and Marcelo were named in the men’s [World XI](https://www.fifa.com/the-best-fifa-football-awards/fifa-fifpro-mens-world11/).

Mills was surprised to find no right-back was selected in the team’s ‘back four’ – and felt that the respective seasons of Ramos and Marcelo were no better than the Liverpool duo.

Speaking on [TalkSPORT](https://talksport.com/football/605740/trent-alexander-arnold-and-andy-robertson-danny-mills-slams-fifa-world-xi-and-insists-liverpool-duo-deserve-places/), he said: “Ramos and Marcelo? I wouldn’t have those two in. They are unbelievable players throughout the course of time, but not last season.

“There’s no right-back in the team, either!

“Trent Alexander-Arnold, why is he not in there? Andy Robertson in at left-back, where are these players? They were sensational last season!

“They got goals and assists, why did they not get a vote or two?”

It is easy to see why Mills feels the Liverpool defensive duo in particular have been harshly overlooked, with Alexander-Arnold and Robertson both part of a team that was crowned [kings of Europe](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/48368443) and finished runners-up in the [Premier League](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2018) – compared to the minimal achievements of the [Real Madrid](https://www.skysports.com/la-liga-table/2018) pair who endured a tumultuous, trophyless season at the Bernabeu.

The stats back up the contrasting campaigns between Liverpool and Real Madrid, too – with [Alexander-Arnold](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/trent-alexander-arnold/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/314353/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) and [Robertson](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/andrew-robertson/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/234803/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) registering a combined 29 assists last season, as [Ramos](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-ramos/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/25557/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) and [Marcelo](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/marcelo/leistungsdatendetails/spieler/44501/plus/0?saison=2018&verein=&liga=&wettbewerb=&pos=&trainer_id=) were involved in 22 goals in 2018/19 – but only after taking Ramos’ eight [penalties](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/sergio-ramos/elfmetertore/spieler/25557) into account.

Therefore, it is difficult to suggest what the likes of Alexander-Arnold would have to do given the reverse of fortunes for the Spanish giants in recent times, as Mills’ anger over the Liverpool duo’s lack of votes looks completely justified.

***Liverpool fans, should there have been more Reds players in that squad after the season you’ve had? Let us know in the comments below!***
