# Liverpool: Fans go wild over transfer links with David Alaba

**A number of [Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/liverpool/) fans have expressed their delight with reports linking the club with Bayern Munich’s [David Alaba](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/liverpool-fc-transfer-rumours/liverpool-keen-to-secure-david-alaba-january-agreement/).**

The 28-year-old centre-back has been a regular for the Bundesliga giants over several seasons, picking up nine league titles and making almost 400 appearances for the club ([TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-alaba/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/59016)).

With Virgil van Dijk out for a [significant amount of time](https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/412585-virgil-van-dijk-knee-injury-surgery) and Joel Matip [struggling to keep fit](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/joel-matip/verletzungen/spieler/82105), Fabinho recently joined them both in the treatment room after pulling up during his side’s [2-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54695658) win against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League.

This has left manager Jurgen Klopp with a nightmarish selection headache as his defensive injury crosis grows. However, after Alaba recently [rejected a new deal](https://twitter.com/cfbayern/status/1321324207142248448) at Bayern, the door has opened for Liverpool to make their move for him (via [Football Insider](https://www.footballinsider247.com/door-opens-for-liverpool-to-sign-alaba-from-bayern/)), with the Austria international’s contract due to expire next June ([TransferMarkt](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/david-alaba/leistungsdatenverein/spieler/59016)).

Unsurprisingly, many Reds supporters are quite excited over the possibility of Alaba, who one fan described as a “class player”, moving to the reigning Premier League champions and begged for the club to move for him once the transfer window opens in January.
