# Liverpool: Erling Haaland advised by his former coach not to move to Anfield

**Red Bull Salzburg striker Erling Haaland has been advised not to sign for Liverpool by one of his former coaches.**

[Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en/news/haaland-is-far-from-lewandowskis-level-strikers-former-coach/1ntiu53zvbqhy1a5bfb8zte4ly) reported that Alf Ingve Berntsen, who worked with the Norway international at Bryne FK, believes that the 19-year-old would find the leap from Austria’s top flight to the [English Premier League leaders](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1) too much to make at this moment in time.

The teenager was linked with a potential move to Anfield by the [Daily Express](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1195418/Liverpool-Erling-Braut-Haaland-transfer-boost-Salzburg) last month, with [the same publication](https://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/1204736/Man-Utd-Bayern-Munich-Erling-Braut-Haaland-transfer) reporting this week that Bayern Munich are also in the hunt for him.

Berntsen told [Goal.com](https://www.goal.com/en/news/haaland-is-far-from-lewandowskis-level-strikers-former-coach/1ntiu53zvbqhy1a5bfb8zte4ly): “The tactical requirements at Bayern and Liverpool would be a bit too high for now – after all, he has only played in Norway and Austria so far. And also there for a short time.”

Haaland has been in phenomenal scoring form this season, with a frightening tally of [26 goals from 18 matches](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdaten/spieler/418560) (1.44 per game) for Red Bull Salzburg – only [two goals fewer than Liverpool’s tally](https://www.premierleague.com/tables?co=1&se=210&ha=-1) from 12 Premier League games this season.

He has already netted no fewer than [five hat-tricks](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdaten/spieler/418560) in 2019/20 and has [scored in each of his club’s four Champions League group games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdaten/spieler/418560), his [seven-goal haul](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/leistungsdaten/spieler/418560) making him the [competition’s top scorer](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/uefa-champions-league/torschuetzenliste/pokalwettbewerb/CL/saison_id/2019) so far.

One of those European goals came at the expense of Liverpool, equalising in a pulsating game in which Salzburg fought back from 3-0 down to draw level before Mohamed Salah eventually scored the winner. \[[via BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/49874345)\]

Haaland’s goal tally this season is only one fewer than [Salah, Sadio Mane, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Roberto Firmino combined](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/leistungsdaten/verein/31) for Liverpool, while he is capable of finishing masterfully with either foot – 14 of his goals have [come from left-footed shots](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/alletore/spieler/418560), with a further [four being scored off his right](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/erling-haaland/alletore/spieler/418560).

Although [Mane and Salah have been scoring frequently](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool/leistungsdaten/verein/31) for the Reds this season, centre-forward Firmino is enduring a barren spell in front of goal. He [hasn’t scored since the win at Chelsea](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/roberto-firmino/leistungsdaten/spieler/131789) nearly two months ago, a run that now stretches to [nine games](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/roberto-firmino/leistungsdaten/spieler/131789).

There may be a temptation to dismiss Haaland’s goal tally as being boosted by playing in a comparatively weak league – Austria’s top flight is ranked 12th in [UEFA’s association club coefficient](https://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/country/#/yr/2020), 10 places behind the Premier League.

However, his status as the Champions League’s top scorer with nearly two goals per game, including one against the holders of the trophy, illustrates that he looks more than capable of making a huge impact at a high level.

Also, at the tender age of 19, there should be plenty more to come from the Norwegian, who seems to possess sufficient quality to prove Berntsen’s doubts wrong and succeed at Liverpool if he were to swap Austria for Anfield.
