# Liverpool: Fabinho withdrawn from Brazil squad despite Klopp swipe

**[Liverpool](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/premier-league/liverpool/) midfielder [Fabinho](https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/tag/fabinho/) has been withdrawn from the Brazil national team after suffering a hamstring injury during the Reds’ [2-0](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54695658) victory against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League.**

### Fabinho sidelined

The 27-year-old [limped off](https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/54695658) during matchday two of the Reds’ European campaign, which added to Jurgen Klopp’s already lengthy injury list consisting mostly of defenders, with Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip [currently in the Melwood treatment room](https://www.premierinjuries.com/injury-table.php).

The German tactician now has a huge headache on his hands, not the sort that any manager would ever want, with the Brazilian likely to miss their upcoming game against West Ham in the Premier League.

Brazil confirmed the news (cited by [Goal](https://www.goal.com/en/news/fabinho-withdrawn-from-brazil-squad-in-bad-injury-omen-for/1m9j3guhbtjh61t4crb6kkekt6)) of Fabinho’s withdrawal from the national team setup, with Everton’s Allan set to replace him during their upcoming World Cup qualifying matches during the third week of November (via [Fotmob](https://www.fotmob.com/teams/8256/fixtures/brazil)).

This news came shortly after Klopp himself questioned head coach Tite as to why Fabinho was not selected more often for Brazil, having picked up just [nine](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabinho/nationalmannschaft/spieler/225693/verein_id/3439) caps since 2015 (as per [Esporte Interativo](https://www.esporteinterativo.com.br/melhorfuteboldomundo/EXCLUSIVO-Klopp-alfineta-Tite-ao-falar-de-Fabinho-Ele-nunca-o-pe-para-jogar-20201027-0051.html), via [Sport Witness](https://sportwitness.co.uk/klopp-takes-swipe-national-team-manager-liverpool-player-talks-proper-blow-reds/)).

The [£54m-rated](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fabinho/profil/spieler/225693) talisman is a [well-respected individual](https://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/liverpool-vs-chelsea-result-jurgen-klopp-fabinho-mane-epl-table-b508433.html) in the Liverpool camp. Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand even described him as a “top operator” after the Reds’ 1-0 win against Ajax recently (per BT Sport, cited by [Metro](https://metro.co.uk/2020/10/21/rio-ferdinand-singles-out-top-operator-fabinho-in-liverpools-champions-league-win-over-ajax-13461024/)).

### Fabinho’s absence is a huge blow

It’s another massive blow that Klopp could have done without. Liverpool’s defensive woes appear to be increasing with no chance of being able to bring any more players through the door until January.

Youngsters [Rhys Williams, Billy Koumetio and Sepp van den Berg](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/fc-liverpool-u21/startseite/verein/9252) are the only centre-backs who are available to stand alongside Joe Gomez in the backline at this time, with some tough fixtures coming up for the Merseysiders.

While Liverpool have been linked with the likes of RB Leipzig’s [Dayot Upamecano](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-transfer-news-upamecano-gomez-19068457), Napoli’s [Kalidou Koulibaly](https://www.calciomercato.com/news/napoli-un-club-torna-alla-carica-per-koulibaly-53854) and Brighton’s [Ben White](https://talksport.com/football/777615/liverpool-brighton-ben-white-virgil-van-dijk-injury-50m/), it must seem like a lifetime away for the Kop faithful to bring any one of those players to the club, with the transfer window not open until January.

That being said, Klopp’s gamble in the summer of not replacing Dejan Lovren hasn’t paid off, and he will now have to utilise the players that he currently has until after the Christmas period.
