# Liverpool: Fans agree with Dermot Gallagher’s views on penalty decision

**Former Premier League referee Dermot Gallagher believes that the decision by Chris Kavanagh to award Liverpool a stoppage time penalty for a foul on Sadio Mane in their 2-1 win over Leicester on Saturday was the correct one.**

Speaking on [Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/11829972/liverpool-penalty-and-hamza-choudhury-yellow-right-decisions-ref-watch)‘ *Ref Watch*, he believes that the Reds forward was fouled by Marc Albrighton, although he added that Mane “[didn’t go down too well](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/11829972/liverpool-penalty-and-hamza-choudhury-yellow-right-decisions-ref-watch)” following the challenge. A clip of Gallagher’s take on the decision was shared on Twitter by [@SkySportsNews](https://twitter.com/skysportsnews/status/1181182302967226368?s=21).

Kavanagh’s decision to award the penalty, which was given with the teams [level at 1-1 four minutes into stoppage time](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-leicester/408054) after a [VAR review](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/11661/11829972/liverpool-penalty-and-hamza-choudhury-yellow-right-decisions-ref-watch), was met with disagreement from some quarters.

Leicester manager Brendan Rodgers said he was unsure that the foul was “[clear and obvious](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-leicester/408054)” and felt that Mane ensured he “[made the most of the contact](https://www.skysports.com/football/liverpool-vs-leicester/408054)“, while [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football) pundit Alan Shearer called the penalty “[very, very, very soft](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/alan-shearer-critical-of-sadio-mane-for-very-soft-liverpool-penalty)” on *Match of the Day* and accused Mane of “[a delayed reaction](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/alan-shearer-critical-of-sadio-mane-for-very-soft-liverpool-penalty)” \[[via TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/alan-shearer-critical-of-sadio-mane-for-very-soft-liverpool-penalty)\].
