# Liverpool: Fans appreciated Hillsborough tribute from Everton last night

**Everton progressed to the fourth round of the Carabao Cup last night with a 2-0 win away to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough. \[[via Sky Sports](https://www.skysports.com/football/sheff-wed-vs-everton/420336)\]**

Everton-focused Twitter account [@ForeverEverton0](https://twitter.com/ForeverEverton0/status/1176605530195976197) tweeted pictures of a banner that was displayed in the away end at Hillsborough with the message ‘Two clubs, one city’.

The banner also included a reference to the number 96, which was the number of Liverpool supporters who lost their lives in a crush at the stadium in 1989 when attending an FA Cup semi-final against Nottingham Forest, as noted by [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-19545126).

As a club, Everton have demonstrated solidarity with the families and friends of those who died in the Hillsborough disaster on multiple occasions.

Tributes were paid at a match at Goodison Park in September 2012 following the publication of findings by an independent commission’s review of the disaster, as reported by [BBC](https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/19540636), and in February 2015 a memorial plaque in honour of the Hillsborough victims was unveiled at Everton’s home ground, as reported by the [Liverpool Echo](https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/everton-fc-unveil-tribute-hillsborough-8582964).

These Liverpool fans on Twitter expressed their appreciation for Everton’s banner at Hillsborough last night:

> Class. Rivals, yes. Enemies – never. One City. Scouse and Proud.
