# Liverpool: Fans berate Charlie Nicholas for Virgil van Dijk comments

**Liverpool have been fantastic once again this campaign, much like they were last season.**

At the end of the 2018/19 term, they finished just one point behind Manchester City, managing [97](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table/2018) themselves, whilst they also won the Champions League. This season, they have improved in the league, and are now [25](https://www.skysports.com/premier-league-table) points clear at the top of the table – it is the [biggest such margin](https://www.premierleague.com/news/1561869) in the English top-tier history.

Virgil van Dijk has been an ever-present once again, playing [every minute](https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/virgil-van-dijk/leistungsdaten/spieler/139208/saison/2019/plus/1#gesamt) of every match for a backline that has conceded the least goals in the top flight. Charlie Nicholas, though, clearly isn’t too impressed with his performances this term. He [said](https://www.skysports.com/football/news/18871/11967909/soccer-saturdays-pl-team-of-the-season) of the Netherlands international: “Has he been as good as last year? No. He looks cumbersome and sluggish at times, but his pace can rescue him.”

As you can imagine, this has had the club’s supporters in uproar – one fan even said he is beyond jealous. They have been reacting in their droves after The Anfield Edition Twitter page shared the quotes, and you can see some of the best comments from the social media platform below.
